  • 19th Century - Jewish and poles arrive in the UK as they try to escape the fascism and the second world war.
  • 1948-1960's - Caribbean workers were invited over to the UK to help rebuild post war Britain. Primarily public services
  • 1950s-1960s - Asians arrived to the UK from India Pakistan and Bangladesh escaping poverty and seeking work in Britain - Prmiarily public services and the textiles industry.
  • 1980-90s - eastern europe refugees escaping from war and political unrest in romania and yugoslovakia (former)
  • From 1997 to 2002, claiming asylum to the UK became a much easier option. In 2002, 84,000 people claimed asylum. Add their dependents and the number was more tha 100,000.
  • 2000-Present. Economic migration from eastern Eastern Europe. This is due to the enlargement of the EU and restricitions on the UK placing limits on immigration.
