Storyboard Text

  • Awful! I failed another test in Geometry! I don't even see why we need to know about stupid circles and triangles anyways!
  • Hey, how's class?
  • Well learning things like the Pythagorean Theorem is kind of important if you want to go into architecture.
  • I don't see how learning a formula created by some old Greek dude would help me become an architect.
  • He wasn't just an old Greek dude- he was THE old Greek dude!
  • Pythagoras was a very rich Greek Philosopher and Mathematician. He was born in Samos, Ionia (Greece) in 570 BC. He later moved to southern Italy where he taught many people about philosophy. Music and math mainly sparked his interests though.
  • While Pythagoras was playing around with triangles he noticed a pattern between the sum of the squares of the triangle's legs and the square of the length of the hypotenuse- they were equal.

  • Since it was math it made logical sense to most people. What caused the most conflict was his philosophical views. There are legends that Pythagoras was murdered, but the truth is that the cause of his death is completely unknown.
  • Many will argue that the discovery of this theorem was by Euclid and that Pythagoras got all the credit for it, which can be true to a certain level. Euclid had discovered the basics of the theorem, and Pythagoras just supported what Euclid found.
  • So what now? How did people react? Did they accept the theorem?
  • That's a lame ending.
  • What's life without a little mystery?
