Santiago arrives at an abandoned church with his sheep. He plans to continue into a nearby village soon and meet a girl he remembers.
Santiago meets the king of Salem. The king says he will explain to Santiago a dream he had. After Santiago pays him in sheep he says that the dream meant that Santiago needs to go to the pyramids of Egypt to find treasure to accomplish his personal legend. He gives him two stones Urim and Thorium to help him make decisions in the future.
Santiago leaves for the Pyramids and arrives at Tanger in Africa. He finds someone to lead him to the pyramids and gives them his money to buy a ride. Santiago stops to look at a sword and the person vanishes into the crowds with Santiago's money.
Santiago gets a job working for a crystal merchant selling crystal glass wear to earn money.
Santiago works at the shop for one year to earn money to buy sheep and return home. He becomes very successful and earns a lot of money because of his good ideas like selling tea and seting up a display case.
Santiago decides to go to the pyramids after all. He is hopeful he will find the treasure and accomplish his personal legend.
