  • Montresor and Fortunato are the main characters in the story. The story is taking place in the early 1900s.
  • Exposition
  • The conflict in the story is that Montresor wants to get revenge on Fortunato because he had hurt Montresor many times.
  • Conflict
  • Montresor finds Fortunato drunk on the street and Montresor starts telling Fortunato about the Amontillado wine he had just purchased. Montresor is trying to get Fortunato to come and taste his new wine by saying another man is going to come and taste it and he knows what good wine tastes like but, Fortuado thinks he is the best wine taster and he wants to go and taste the wine.
  • Rising Action
  • The climax in the story is when Montresor is trapping Fortunato in a room and covering the doorway with bricks.
  • Climax
  • As Montresor continues to work putting the bricks in place Fortunato is talking to him and trying to explain to him that they would laugh about this in the future.
  • Falling Action
  • After Montresor trapped Fortunato in the room and covered the door with bricks he walked away from Fortunato and left him down in the cellar.
