  • The scene of this book takes place in the winter, in Germany, in a single day, in the woods and in a house. This story's conflict is that Shatz is sick and he's afraid he will die.
  • Hi, I'm Shatz!
  • I'm Shatz's father.
  • CONFLICT
  • I don't feel well.
  • RISING ACTION
  • The father goes out hunting to give the boy privacy.
  • Dad calls the doctor who visits, takes the boys temperature and says the he has the flu.
  • Hey doc...
  • The boy tells his father that he doesn't have to stay with him if it bothers him.
  • When dad returns he learns that Shatz won't let anyone in his room, so he asks what is the matter.
  • You don't have to stay with me if it bothers you.
  • CLIMAX
  • How long will it be before I die?
  • FALLING ACTION
  • The dad helps clear up the boy's misunderstanding, which was how he confused the measurements of Celsius with Fahrenheit.
  • The boy is sick and thinks he is going to die. He spends the whole day worrying and stressing.
  • There's a difference between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
  • RESOLUTION
  • The boy understands that he won't die and the next day he is very emotional because he is relieved
