Gallaudet started tutoring his friend's daughter, Alice Cogswell
April 15, 1817 A deaf school is born
Gallaudet thought "There are more like Alice, so why don't I start a school?!"
Gallaudet was able to find 84 deaf people, enough to start a school !
The American Asylum Of Instruction For The Deaf And Dumb. Alice was the first to enroll.
Sign language has influenced starting with European to Martha's Vineyard and many teacher throughout time.
