  • Odysseus' men are frightened by the noise of the waves crashing. And he is trying to confront them by telling them they have been through worse. Line 756-757 and Line 766-768
  • "Friends, have we never been in danger before this? More fearsome is it now than when the Cyclops penned us in his cave? What power he had! Line 766-768
  • The boat is heading towards Scylla, but Odysseus told his men nothing, as they could do nothing... Odysseus grabbed two heavy spears and went to fore-deck thinking he'll see Scylla but could not find her. Line 782-784 & Line 789-794
  • "I strained my eyes upon the cliff side veiled in cloud, but nowhere could I catch sight of her." Line 791-793
  • And all this time, in travail, sobbing, gaining on the current, we rowed into the strait--Scylla to port and on our starboard beam Charybdis, dire gorge of the salt seatide. Line 795-798
  • *CRIES* Oh no, I see a six headed monster.. and is that a whirlpool?
  • The shot spume soared to the landslide heights, and fell like rain... My men all blanched against the gloom, our eyes fixed upon that yawning mouth in fear of being devoured. Line 801-802 & Line 807-809

  • Then Scylla made her strike, whisking six of my best men from the ship. Line 809-810
  • AHH!!
  • Oh NOOO, Scylla is eating six of our men!!
  • The Rocks were now behind; Charybdis, too, and Scylla dropped astern. Line 826-828
