Storyboard Text

  • Camille: So we asked ourselves, "what can we could do to help balance these national and global conversations?"
  • What if the stories and images you see were created not by outsiders but by Afro-Brazilian women?
  • So we came up with an answer: the Girls with Cameras Project. Together, we're going to empower women and girls to speak for themselves and advocate for their communities. And we want you to get involved.
  • We know that women and girls are the most powerful agents for social change. And we know that photography is the most powerful tool for telling stories, challenging perceptions, and reaching global audiences.
  • So over the next year, we'll be working with local organizations in Bahia to teach young women how to use photography to share their challenges, visions, and ideas with their own communities, their country, as well as the international community. And this is only the beginning, we have designed this project to be a sustainable initiative that will multiply and continue through future years.
  • We have laid a solid foundation for this project, but we cannot do this project without YOU. You are our partners in this journey. We need your financial support as well as in-kind donations to make it happen. But we also want you to get involved, spread the word, share this video with your friends, colleagues, and social networks. Keep up with our progress, comment on our Facebook page, our blog, and participate in our live exhibitions.
  • They will learn self-determination, leadership skills, and at the end of the year they will develop a digital and print advocacy campaign that will reach decision-makers, thought leaders, students, and the general public both at home and abroad.
  • Together, we can build a sustainable, equitable platform where young women and girls can stand up for their communities, make their voices heard, and become active participants in the transformation of their futures.
