  • Ordinary World: This stage is the beginning of the story when Odysseus is at war in Troy fighting for Helen,this is his ordinary regular world.
  • Call to Adventure: In this stage Odysseus has just finished fighting in the battle of Troy and is to sail home to his wife, Penelope.
  • Refusal of the Call: At this point Odysseus is to sail home but he is shipwrecked and can't leave. He himself does not refuse the call but he is unable to accept it.

  • How will I get home? I'm shipwrecked...
  • Meeting with the Mentors: In this stage Odysseus recieves the help of his men to build a boat and is guided home, but not resourcefully, by Athena.
  • I have the help of my men and Athena to guide me home! And the boat I built!
  • Crossing the Treshold: Odysseus sets sail for his home on Ithaca and 'crosses the threshold' holding him back from going home and starts his journey.
  • In this stage Odysseus faces many
  • Passing up immortality
  • and making difficult decisions to get home
  • Tests, Allies, & Enemies:
  • trials including escaping from the Cyclops
  • Approaching the Innermost Cave: In this stage Odysseus has reached his home in Ithaca and Athena helps to disguise him as a beggar so he isn't noticed and approaches his long awaited 'battle'.
  • Ordeal: Here Odysseus approaches Telemachus and a swineherder and tells his once faithful servants of his identity. He then proceeds to prepare to take back his throne.
  • Reward (siezing the sword): In this part of Odysseus' journey he competes against all the other suitors for Penelope's marriage and reveals himself to the suitors in the dining hall.
  • The Road Back: Odysseus has beaten all of his compteors and has won the hand of his wife. His victory is a symbol of his 'journey back home' or his journey back to his throne.
  • Ressurection: In this stage Odysseus is reborn as a new person metaphorically. He is no longer portraying a beggar but is himself again.
  • Return with the Elixir: This stage is when Odysseus claims his rightful throne again after proving his identity to Penelope and is with her once more.
