Storyboard Text

  • Since Tara can't have eggs I'm going to have to get creative as to how to replace these properties in the cookies. Lets take a look in my fridge and see if we can find anything to use instead.
  • Oh, hi there. It's such a pleasure to have you here with me again. This week I have a very special friend coming to visit me.
  • I haven't gone shopping recently but I have a few things that might be useful. Milk, chocolate. Both of those are a must but don't replace eggs in the recipe. Peppers, onions. Now that would just be a crime.
  • My best friend, Caitlyn and her mother,Tara are coming to dinner. Now Tara has very special dietary needs. She is allergic to many foods including eggs.

  • Ah apples and applesauce. I think I've found my solution.
  • Eggs are an important ingredient in many different foods. This can be challenging especially when baking.
  • Applesauce can replace several different components of different recipes. This includes eggs. In applesauce there is a substance called polysaccharide, or pectin. Pectin helps hold cell walls together in certain plants. Like apples!
  • In general, when substituting applesauce for eggs you should use ¼ of a cup of unsweetened applesauce per egg the recipe calls for. You will also need to add ½ a teaspoon of baking powder.
  • After the break, we'll make Grandma's famous chocolate chip cookies with applesauce all for our very special guests! I'm so excited.
