  • The French revolution was an uprising in France against the monarchy that lastest from 1789 to 1799 and had many long-range of causes.
  • Economic cause Overtaxation
  • The Clergy-first estate enjoyed enormous wealth and privilege, collected tithes, and paid no taxes. The Nobility-second estate paid no taxes.Third estate were 98% of French population, burdened by taxes, many earned miserable wages and faced hunger and even starvation.
  • 
  • Louis XVI is well known to imprison without trial any one who criticized his government and he and his spouse Marie Antoinette to live an extravagant life in the Palace of Versailles. They did not care about the country. Due to the extreme unfair social hierarchy, some oppositions arose in all the 3 estates.
