NEAR a large, and atrocious forest, lived a poor woodcutter, his wife, and their two children; the boy's, Hansel and girl's, Gretel. They had very little to bite or to sup, and once, when there was great dearth in the land, the man could not even gain the daily bread. (Grimm 1)
Nibble, Nibble, like a mouse, who is nibbling at my house?
One night the two children were not able to sleep due to their hunger, heard their step-mother negotiating with the father about how the two shall feed the kids, when the step-mother interrupted fiercely saying, "we will take the children early in the morning into the forest, where it is the thickest;we will make them a fire, and we will give each of them a piece of bread, then we go to our work and leave them alone; they will never find their way home again, and we shall be quit of them." (Grimm 2)
When the day was breaking and before the sun had risen, the wife came and awakened the two kids with a hassle, "Get up you lazy bones, we are going into the forest to cut wood." Hansel gave his loaf of bread to Gretel, where she could hold because of the flint in his pocket to guide them back home. Then she gave the two a piece of bread, then they set off all together into the woods. (Grimm 2)
It was now the third morning since they had left their father's house. They were always trying to get back to it, but instead of that they only found themselves farther in the wood, and if help had not soon come they would have starved. They then saw a snow white bird perched on a tree singing. The bird eventually guided them to a house that would make a fine meal. So without further to do, they ate the candy coated house. (Grimm 4)
The door opened an anger woman came out, leaning upon a crutch. Hansel and Gretel were very frightened. The old women greeted them in and offered more food. Little did the two know, she was a wicked witch eventually going to cook them then eat them. As Hansel and Gretel fell asleep, the wicked witch awakened them at once, forwarding Hansel to the stables, and shutting him up behind a grating then went back to Gretel and continued the plan. (Grimm 5-6)
As the witch, ferociously tried to cook the children, she was tricked by Gretel, instead of cooking them, the witch was the cooked. "I can get in myself" and she stooped down and put her head in the oven's mouth. Then Gretel gave her a push, so that she went in further, and she shut the iron door upon her, and put up the bar. Instantly they were relieved they had killed the witch and decided to head back home satisfied. On the way home, they came across a river which a white duck helped them across then they ended
