Gangrene is a disease that kills the bone, muscle, and skin tissue of your body. It is caused by bacteria infecting an open wound. It is also caused by a limited amount of blood flow to the affected area.
There are different kinds of gangrene . One is dry gangrene, it makes your body look as though you have been mummified. The other type is gas gangrene, if you have this type it would make you look bloated and puffy. The symptoms of gangrene are a very clear line between the infected and uninfected areas, severe pain followed by numbness, and a foul smelling discharge leaking from the the sore, skin will change colors in the order red then brown then black, fever and feeling sick, and a crackling noise from the infected area if pushed down on
Gangrene can be caused from diabetes, atherosclerosis, smoking, serious injuries or trauma, obesity, peripheral arterial disease, and Raynaud’s phenomenon. Ways to treat gangrene can be surgery, maggot therapy, and oxygen therapy.
