  • in this early part of the play Algernon expresses his distaste for the practice of marriage. Which in the novel you will see the irony.

  • In this scene Jack is confessing his love for Gwendolyn and he does not know that Algeronn has just written Jacks address down on his shirt.

  • Something tells me we are going to be great friends.
  • I have realized for the first time in my life the importance of being Ernest.
  • In this scene Cecily meets Ernest(Algeronn) and starts to fall for him Because she has already fantasized about him. the Irony is she does not know that not Ernest.

  • Jack returns home from London and proceeds to tell everyone that his Brother Ernest is dead. But to his surprise he finds that Algeronn is impersonating his Brother Ernest.

  • In this scene Gwendolyn and Cecily meet and like each other at first until they get confused about who is engaged to whom.
  • How nice of you to like me so much.
  • Lady Bracknell finally comes around allows the Marriages happen only because Cecily has a ton of money and because jack is family,and jack finds out that his name is Ernest. The Situational irony is that Lady Bracknell lets them get married.
