Storyboard Text

  • (He totally does though...)
  • Uzowulu is a beast. Two years ago, when she was pregnant, he beat her until she miscarried.
  • He must be seen as the scum he is.
  • I'd never hurt my own wife you liar!
  • These men are wasting my time with a samll dispute like this.
  • Our duty is not to blame this man or to praise that, but to settle the dispute.
  • Right you are!
  • He's getting away with this and it will happen all over again...
  • You suck.
  • Go to your in-laws with a pot of wine and beg your wife to return to you. It is not bravery when a man fights a woman.
  • Ha! That's easy.
  • The egwugwu appear out of their hut and come to the village ilo to appear before two men who are fighting over a woman. The woman is a sister to one of the men and is fighting so that she does not have to return to her husband because he has beaten her severely many times. The husband denies it and demands she returns home even though the neighbors know he does in fact beat her. The elder of the egwugwu listens and is acting as judge in this matter.
  • After hearing a story from both of the men, the egwugwu go back to their hut and debate about the resolution of the conflict. It is important to note that the elder of the group states that they aren't debating what is right and what is wrong, but how to best resolve this conflict without further fighting.
  • The decision has been made by the egwugwu and is brought before the two men. The husband must bring palm wine and offerings to his wife and beg for her to come back to him. If he doesn't, she will remain with her family. The brother listens to the decision being carried out and is still upset with the husband.
