Storyboard Text

  • John Proctor
  • Important lines:
  • Theme song:
  • "Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!"
  • Character development:
  • At the start, John was a trustworthy farmer with a good reputation. In the middle, his wife was accused of witchcraft, and he took defense. At the end, John was also accused and chose to keep his name without tarnish.
  • Theme: Hysteria
  • Because of this hysteria, many people were accused because they were afraid of being accused themselves.
  • After witchcraft continued to develop, many more people went crazy and believed people were witches.
  • In the beginning of the story, the townspeople were overreacting about just 2 people that were afflicted.
  • Similarity: Nearly all of the lines used in the movie were used in the play, which also tells the story quite well without any tweaks that make the movie worse.
  • Difference: In scene 2, there were many places the play couldn't fit into a stage. There was an outside area, church, and a house, which couldn't all be included in a play.
  • Similarity: Many places were also the same as the book. This allows us to be able to compare if we actually were going to do the play in front of an audience.
