"Charles" By: Shirley Jackson
There is kid named Charles who got spanked!
BLAH! BLAH! BLAH!
Laurie! Quit that right now!!!
"Laurie usually adjusts very quickly. I suppose this time it's Charles's influence" (Jackson S27).
"Charles? We don't have any Charles in the kindergarten" (Jackson S27).
After Laurie's first day of kindergarten he comes back with news about a misbehaved child named "Charles". Little do his parents know that Laurie is tricking them by informing them that "Charles", who doesn't exist, is someone else when it's really Laurie (Jackson S22).
As "Charles" who is actually Laurie, continues misbehaving he becomes an "institution" in Laurie's home, and is always being talked about. Laurie's parents grow concerned for their son. (Jackson S25).
Ironically Laurie's mother worries about what type of influence "Charles" is to her son, and she complains about "Charles's" behavior. She wishes something could be done about it, but little does she know "Charles" is her very own son until, she talks to to the kindergarten teacher (Jackson S22-S27).
