Storyboard Text

  • The Second Punic War began in 218 B.C.
  • Hannibal, one of the greatest generals of all time, assembled a Carthaginian army to fight Rome across the alps into Italy.
  • Many of my warriors have perished, but we have defeated Rome many times!
  • Hannibal spent years laying waste in the countryside raiding farms, and taking livestock. He did not have the equipment to attack cities. He also tried to take away Rome's allies.
  • You should leave Rome and become a Cartheginian!
  • No! Never! I am loyal to Rome.
  • Carthage had to pay a huge sum of money and give up its navy colonies in Spain after the Roman general, Scipio, defeated Hannibal. Carthage remained independent, but it lost all of its power.
  • I, Scipio, have finally defeated Hannibal, the great general, in Africa!
  • Even though Carthage was no longer a threat, the Romans still hated it, so they declared war on Carthage in 149 B.C.
  • It's 146 B.C. and we finally destroyed Carthage!
  • Yes! I am so happy!
  • Rome defeated Macedonia in 197 B.C.
  • We have finally destroyed all of the Macedonians who were allied with Carthage!
  • We are now supreme power in the Mediterranean!
  • My farm has been destroyed! Now I have to sell my land and depend on the government for food!
  • Why are we subjects and not citizens?
  • In 133 B.C. Rome extended control over the entire region.
