Anna Strong: What she did
Effects of her actions
Here is the message
Her assignment in the Culper ring was to signal Caleb Brewster’s arrival to Abraham Woodhull, she did so by hanging laundry on her clothesline in predetermined ways. If she hung a black petticoat, it meant Brewster was in town.
Woodhull met with Brewster and he passed him secret messages. Brewster and his men then went to connecticut and passed the information to Tallmadge who was able to bring the information to Washington’s headquarters.
She was never caught, after the war she reunited with her husband and gave birth to another child.
