The North made money by trading with other countries, manufacturing clothes, lumber, fur, and mining. Cites were urbanized after the growth of immigrants and population.
Labor in the North included railroad construction from the Irish, manufacturing jobs, constructing, and women were household workers.
African Americans in the North were segregated and not viewed as equal. They were not hired in even factories and had to make their own towns.
The South made money off of cash crops on plantations. The slaves would do most of the work and they grew mainly cotton.
Labor in the South was all slave work on plantations. Slaves had to abide by the slave code at all times.
Free African Americans in the South did not have the rights a white man would have, they could not get an education, travel, and could only have some jobs.
