The Kansas-Nebraska act was enacted on May 1854. This act had repealed the Missouri compromise act which was very good for the south. This made it possible for Kansas and Nebraska to open slavery.
First blows to the Civil War
People from both sides of the slavery issue poured into Kansas in hopes that there side would be able to over take the other
Anti-slavery forces set up a provisional free state in Topeka
