  • Today we're going to talk about Depo-Provera birth control shot!
  • The birth control works by releasing a hormone(progestin) into the body. Progestin then works by keeping the eggs from leaving the ovaries. Pregnacy cannot happen if there is no egg in the sperm.
  • The Depo-Provera birth control shot is one of the most effective. It works more effectively when shot every 12 weeks.
  • The advantages are - Long-lasting pregnancy protection -There is no daily pill to take -There is nothing to do right before sex -Easy and safe
  • The disadvantages are -Irregular bleeding is common side effect for the first 6-12 months of use -For most woman periods become lighter & shorter -For other woman periods are heavier & longer
  • You will need a prescription in order to get the birth control pill. If you need an exam it may cost you between $0- $250. If you are late for your shot you may need to do a pregnancy test before that will cost from $0- $20
