  • How can I trust you? We have not been happy together for five years, Tom.
  • Tom returns home after the accident. He is not aware that Daisy was the one driving.

  • I know. I know. I'll leave her. I'll be faithful to you and Pammy.
  • Since Tom feels as though he is losing his wife, he tries to apologize for his affair.

  • Wait...What?
  • It's okay, Daisy. I understand. We've both had our affairs. I promise, I never even loved her.
  • Daisy is confused as to why Tom does not bring up the accident but is too afraid to bring it up.

  • Daisy wants to confess to Tom. Tom takes advantage of the fact that Daisy is unaware of the death of his mistress in order to seem as though he is doing the right thing.

  • Tom assumes the terrible thing Daisy did was having an affair with Gatsby.
  • Tom begs Daisy for another chance only because he knows he lost Myrtle and Daisy is the only one he has left.
