  • Hey, thanks for replacing the water gallon. By the way, is this water safe to drink?
  • Yes of course, they purified it with chlorine, a gaseous element.
  • Oh really? What does that do?
  • Well, chlorine, disinfects drinking water by killing pathogenic micro-organisms in the water.
  • When dissolved in water, this yellow-green gas reacts with water to form hypochlorous acid, with the formula Cl2 +H20 -> HOCl + HCl
  • Since it is a strong oxidising agent, it can kill micro-organisms in all usable water such as in your bathroom through oxidation.
  • Hypochlorous acid created destroys the cell wall of micro-organisms and defuses the enzymes and proteins that causes diseases. This is due to them being neutrally charged, allowing it to pass through the surface of the micro-organisms with negative charges.
  • Oh! I sort of understand now. Thanks for replacing the water. AND for explaining why its clean. You can never trust Jakarta water you know.
