  • Noooooooo!
  • You have been caught trying to leave! You will now be a gladiator!
  • Never! I want to win my way out of slavery!
  • Please let me win!
  • Head to Mt. Vesuvius!
  • Early life- Spartacus was a Thracian. When he was young he joined the Roman army and he tried to leave but was caught and sold into slavery as a gladiator.
  • We will win!
  • Please let me go!
  • give me the food and armor!!!
  • Life as a gladiator- Spartacus was forced to fight for the entertainment of the Romans. He was sent to a gladiator school where he trained to fight. He fought gladiators and animals. Life as a gladiator was hard and he wanted to escape.
  • Okay! Okay!
  • Seventy gladiators, with Spartacus as their leader in 73 BC, escaped from gladiator school. They stole their weapons and armor and fought their way free. They headed toward Mount Vesuvius and gathered more slaves as they went.
  • Rome set a army of 3,000 men with Claudius Glaber as their leader. They surrounded the slaves at Mount Vesuvius and waited for them. Spartacus and the gladiators snuck up behind the Romans using vines and killed nearly all of them.
  • Spartacus and his army now had 70,000 slaves! The slaves were taught how to fight and they had a lot of weapons and armor from defeating the Romans. In the winter they camped in Italy and trained for the next battles that they knew would come.
  • The Romans became very scared and worried about Spartacus and his army. They gathered an army of about 50,000 soldiers with Crassus as their leader. Pompey the Great and his army, and Crassus and his army, killed Spartacus and defeated his army.
