Scout and Miss Maudie were talking about the Radley's on Miss Maudie's front porch when the topic of the Radley family came up. Scout asks whether or not she thinks Boo is dead. Once Miss Maudie states her opinion, the topic turns to their religion.
"Foot-washers believe anything that's pleasure is a sin. Did you know some of 'em came out of the woods one Saturday and passed by this place and told me and my flowers were going to hell?"
Miss Maudie tells Scout that "you never know what goes on behind closed doors" and that Scout must be respectful of the Radley's religion and lifestyle.
