The purpose of the estates general was to give votes and representation to all three estates. A big event that took place was Louis XIV calling the estates general to meet at Versailles.
Revolution Begins
The tennis court oath was an oath taken by the delegates of the third estate swearing ¨never to separate and to meet wherever the circumstances might require until we have established a sound and just constitution. It came to be because the original hall was locked.
More than 800 Parisians assembled outside the Bastille the demanded weapons and gunpowder which they believed were stored there. The commander of the Bastille did not open the gates and opened fire on the crowd, the battle that followed led to them breaking through the defenses and killing the commander but they found no weapons.
When the revolution began the it became a tradition for the Parisions to behead enemies and place their heads on pikes.
