I am a Viking. I am ready to attack the next village and raid the town.
I'm the King, no one trusts me to protect them anymore! So I don't have as much authority anymore!
People result to Local Leaders
In Medieval Europe, the major problem was protection from invading people. One of the invading groups was the Maygars, they invaded mainly from the south around the 800's.
Landowners Become Rich
Yippee!! I'm a land owner and am so rich I don't even know what to do with all my money!
Now another invading group was the Vikings. They attacked mainly Northern Europe and around the 1000's.
Feudalism Starts
I'm a Peasant and am poor and very hungry.
Since one main ruler couldn't protect all of Europe people started to use more local authority for better protection
The Feudalism Pyramid
WooHoo!! I'm at the top of the Feudal Pyramid!
If you had land back in medieval times you were more than likely rich. So more people wanted land, so people would pay land owners for a piece of land, but also had to promise for protection or other services to the Lord.
But some people werent as fortunate (the peasants) and Feudalism did not help them as much as other people.
The Feudal Pyramid was relatively simple. The King was the top of the pyramid, followed by church officials/Nobles. They were followed by Knights, which were followed by peasants.
