  • Scene 3: Banishèd
  • "There is no world without Verona walls / But purgatory, torture, hell itself. / Hence 'banished' is 'banished from the world' "
  • Mercutio is killed in a fight between him and a Capulet, Tybalt. Then, Romeo kills Tybalt to avenge this act, all while Benvolio stands by trying to keep peace. Soon after, the Prince and several Capulets arrive. Romeo's punishment is banishment to Mantua.
  • Scene 4: Thursday Be It
  • "These times of woe afford no times of woo. -- Madam, good night"
  • Juliet's nurse brings the terrible news to her that her cousin has been killed, but more depressing, that Romeo has been banished from Verona. Juliet is furious at her new husband, but then reminds herself how much he means to her.
  • Scene 5: Disobedient Wretch
  • "To go with Paris to Saint Peter's Church, / Or I will drag thee on a hurdle thither. / Out, you green- sickness carrion!"
  • Romeo informs the Friar that he would rather be killed than exiled from Verona when he is told his punishment. Romeo is allowed to spend his wedding night with his wife, but must leave in the morning. Friar Lawrence promises to send Romeo good news from Verona.
  • The Capulets believe Juliet is so sad because of Tybalt's death, having no idea of Romeo. Lord Capulet decides to marry Juliet to Paris in three days.
  • Lord Capulet is extremely angry at his daughter, Juliet, for not wanting to marry Paris. Still, none of her family members know of Romeo's short stay, leaving Juliet no one, except the Friar, to consult. Then, she realizes how her own nurse has just told her to forget Romeo.
