I am Martin Luther King and I was born on January 15, 1929 . Throughout my life, I fought against segregation and injustices. I wanted everyone, including whites and blacks to have Civil Rights and to be able to work and live together.
When I was growing up ,white & black people could not use the same bathroom or eat together. I had to go to a school with only my black friends. I loved all of my friends and teachers but the learning I was doing was not the same. I was able to skip 9th and 11th grade. I wanted to go to college and come back to fight for the civil rights of my people.
After high school, I went to Morehouse College at the age of 15. I wanted to be a minister just like my father and then I went to Boston University. In Boston, I met my wife, Corretta Scott and we got married. When I went back home, black people were still being treated unfairly because of their skin color.
I stood against discrimination. In 1955, my friend Rosa Parks was arrested because he refused to go to the back of the bus. It says that if you were black you would have to sit in the back , & if you were white , you rode up in the front , there was no Civil Rights for blacks back then. I decided that I had to do something about it and I joined her in the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
In August 28, 1963, I delivered my most important speech in Washington, D.C. In this speech I spoke about my dreams for black people and white people to get along and for black people to be treated fairly. It was one of the most important moments in my life. When I looked at the crowd, I saw whites and blacks and this is all I ever wanted.
Because of my involvement in the Civil Rights Movement, I went to jail 20 times and even my house was bombed. Even though this was scary, I did it because I had a dream. I was not going to rest until my brothers and sisters had equal rights. I didn't want people to be treated differently because of their skin color.
