The plague is a deadly disease transmitted by fleas from rats to humans. It is caused by a bacterium called Yersinia pestis. When a flea bites a rat carrying the plague and then after bites a human, that human will result in getting the plague.
The Black Death first appeared in Europe on the Black Sea. After it started to spread, the rats carrying the plague went on the ships traveling to other places of the world, and continued to spread the disease to many other continents. Soon, the plague was spreading in many places.
Many many people died from the plague. From 1347 to 1352, about 25 million people died from it.
