Storyboard Text

  • When I grow up I want to be really tall!
  • Sorry! But based on my research you have recessive alleles which means you are going to be short.
  • I wish....
  • How do you Know?
  • I study heredity which is about the passage of gentic information.
  • Sorry! But who are you?
  • I am Gregor Mendel a priest in the 19th century that lives in central Europe.
  • Can you show me how you know ?
  • The punnet square uses alleles ( a form of genes ) to tell which trait you have. For example, if a dominant allele is present it has that trait automatically, but for recessive allele to have trait there has to be two.
  • I learned it by cross pollinating pure breed pea pods and by using something called a punnet square.
  • t= recessive allele T= dominant allele
  • tT
  • TT
  • Punnet Square
  • Tt
  • tt
  • To help you understand lets say 2 parents had 4 flowers and the one of the parents was tall the other short. 3 of them would be tall and the other short.
