Storyboard Text

  • Hi! My name is Cynthia Nimmo. I'm Amanda Murray's aunt, and I'm here to tell you about the time when I was in New York during 9/11.
  • It all started September 11, 2001. I was in New York at the time and I was working in my office. I suddenly hear a loud crash, and I thought it was an accident. But, I saw the next plane hit shortly after, and I saw the Twin Towers collapse.
  • I was terrified when this happened. At first, I thought our country was going to war. The good news is that I think I did the right thing: I made sure that everyone i n my office was safe and calm, and after we were sure it was safe we went to the hospital to give blood.
  • After it was safe to go outside, I went outside and saw that every train, subway, and bus was closed down or destroyed and that I was basically trapped in Manhattan. My friends and I had to walk far to get to a piece of transportation.
  • The first plane hit when I was in the elevator on my way to my office. The second plane hit when I was working. It was terrifying, but I don't regret being in New York because i experienced an event that changed the future for the United States, and it gave me a feeling that we were going to be in this together and that changed my life.
  • This event changed how I felt about America because it made me realize that there were people who were very angry at us and they wanted to attack us. This event made me stronger because when things like this happen that are unexpected and there’s no way to prepare for them, you see very quickly what you're made of. You will either hide, or you will choose to be strong and find out who needs help and you bring your community together.
  • Thank You for listening to my story!
