Storyboard Text

  • Before the Louisiana purchase in 1803, Jefferson had an intent on sending explorers to the western region.
  • I should send explorers to the western region.
  • Excellent! I shall bring my trusty friend William Clark to co-lead.
  • Jefferson chose his private secretary to command the expedition. With Jefferson's approval, Lewis invited an old friend, Clark, to be his co-leader.
  • I want you to lead the expedition. Explore and report back your findings.
  • Would you like to purchase that?
  • For months prior to the start of the expedition, Lewis selected equipment to outfit the Corps of Discovery.
  • Yes. But I will make a few adjustments so it will survive the expedition.
  • I need to study and acquire new skills, including medicine and anatomy.
  • Lewis studied anatomy, history, medicine, and astronomy. He even collected medicines and scientific devices.
  • Lewis collected gifts because he needed to establish a friendly relationship with the Indians.
  • This will be a perfect gift for the Indians.
  • We have come to explore your lands. We would like to have a friendly relationship.
  • You friendly people. We help you on journey.
