Storyboard Text

  • On the day of the great tournament,  Palamon lost the battle while Arcite won. "By Palamon's last stroke in sweeping rake. But all for nought, they brought him to the stake" (Chaucer)
  • However, the god Saturn suddenly sent a fury to Arcite after he won the tournament, and Arcite dies, leaving only Palamon to marry Emily. "Out of the ground behold a fury start, By Pluto sent at the request of Saturn... And ere he was aware Arcite was swept... Onto the ground, and there he lay for dead" (Chaucer)
  • Theseus proposes the marriage of Palamon and Emily, and the two live together happily ever after. "Now Palamon's in joy... He's tenderly beloved Emily... a love unbroken. Thus ended Palamon and Emily, And God save all this happy company!" (Chaucer)
