Storyboard Text

  • Deceit
  • Hi, my name is Holden. My brother Allie died and has had a big impact on me. I got kicked out of Pencey Prep. I spent a lot of time on my own before going home to my parents. That is how I ended up in a mental institution.
  • Scene 1
  • "Rudolf Schmidt"
  • "I must tell Ernest we met. May I ask your name, dear?"
  • Scene 2
  • "Are you sure you could afford it and all?"
  • "We don't seem to believe you."
  • "I have quite a bit of money with me."
  • Deceit is a distortion of the truth. It is a way of lying.
  • While on the train, Holden meets Ernest Morrow's mother and Holden have a small conversation. When she asks his name, he lies and says his name is Rudolf Schmidt. Rudolf Schmidt is really the janitor at Pencey Prep.
  • (Salinger, pg.17)
  • While at a sandwich shop, Holden started talking with these nuns that are sitting right next to him. He gives them ten bucks as a contribution. They ask if he can afford it. He lies and says he has a lot of money.
  • (Salinger, pg.143)
