Newtons 1st law and sports
hello. welcome to figure skating.
It seems you have come to me to learn about Newton's first law and how it applys to figure skating, right?
Then let's get started.
Newtons 1st law states that an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. the skaters in this situation would be the object. since the ice has little friction, there is nothing stopping us from flying out of the ice. so we need something to act as the unbalanced force. that would be the wall that keeps us from flying into the crowd. if we don't move our feet we are most likely standing still, not moving, until the unbalanced force acts upon us to make us move.
thank you for stopping by. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go practice. Bye!
