It took a longer time than expected to get King George to admit defeat. Yorktown took all the heart out of whatever support was left for the war. Months dragged behind before King George accepted defeat.
In early 1783, representatives of United States and Britain signed a peace treaty in Paris. Britain gave up all lands between the Atlantic Coast and the Mississippi river. Many loyalists didn't trust the treaty's promise of fairness.
Many nations had many mixed feelings. America was thrilled with their victory. The Revolutionary War had a great impact on other parts of the world. It inspired revolts. It thrilled liberals who dreamed of creating their own democracies.
