  • James Madison as president
  • This is president James Madison. He wanted war with British because he was mad about Britain's impressment and attacks on U.S. ships.
  • British was keep impressing our people and attack our ships. And, Tecumseh, Native American chief organized people and fight against Americans.
  • There is only one thing left... WAR!!!
  • Impressment and Natives resistance
  • Between 1812-1814, the war was mostly fought by the navy. Oliver H. Perry took command of the U.S. Navy in Lake Eerie. The British ground forces retreated into Canada and General Wiliam H. Harrison followed them and defeated them at the Battle of Thames. There were no longer British threat in NW territory.
  • Round 1, US won and British lose
  • Phase 1- Battle in the Great lakes/Canada
  • Tthe British blockade the coast and marched to Washington D.C. and burn down the White house and the President's manshion. Francis Scott Key watched the bombardment of Ft.McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland. While he was watching he wrote the poem"The Star Spangled Banner" US national anthem.

  • Phase 2- East Coast
  • The British attacked New Orleans to cut off American use of Mississipi River. So, James Madison sent Andrew Jackson to command the American forces in 1815. American casualties=71 British casualties=2000
  • Phase 3- New Orleans
  • Andrew Jackson dominates the world.
  • It increased American patriotism. American heroes= Andrew Jackson, William H. Harrison, Commodore Perry. Also, weakened Natives resistance to westward settlement. Lastly, U.S. manufacturing grew. Beginning of Industrial Revolution.
  • Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
