Storyboard Text

  • After the death of Oedipus, both his sons Polynieces and Eteocles challenged each other in battle for the throne of Thebes. Resulting in both of their deaths leaving their uncle Creon as the next King.
  • As the new King of Thebes, Creon issues an order that no one may bury Polynices for he is a traitor and no traitors shall be honored nor mourned for.
  • "I could never stand by silent, watching destruction march against our city putting safety to rot nor could I ever make that man a friend of mine who menaces our country." (lines 207-210)
  • "Yes! He is my brother and- deny it as you will- your brother too." (lines 54-56)
  • Antigone and her sister, Ismene were conflicted as to how to ddeal with the new law against burying their fallen brother, Polynieces. Ismene decided against helping Antigone to preserve the law, meanwhile Antigone goes through with honoring her brothers burial
  • " What? You'd bury him, when a law forbids the city?" (lines 52-53)
  • Antigone buries Polynices secretly without the help of her sister, Ismene.
  • "I will raise a mound, for him, for my dear brother" (line 95)
  • "Look at me, men of my fatherland, sitting out on the last road looking into the last light of day, the last eye will ever see..." (line 900-903)
  • Antigone, has been sentenced to be locked away in a vault, and is ultimately walking to her death.
  • After Tiresias's prediction, Creon attempted to allow Antigone to go free, but it was far to late. She had committed suicide in addition he had witnessed Haemon's suicide. After missing the strike against Creon Haemon chose to take his own life, to be with the love of his life Antigone.
  • "Ohhh, my crimes, so senseless, so insane. My stubborn, deadly-- look at us twice the killer, the killed, father and son, the same blood-- the same misery!" (lines 1393-1396)
