Ties Between Nations in Europe
I love my home country of Germany!
Nations in Europe had ties to one another, so when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, other countries with ties to Bosnia and Serbia got pulled into the war due to alliances.
Nationalism, a strong feeling of pride in and loyalty to one's nation or ethnic group, also created some tension in Europe. It lead to some countries to start putting national interests first, regardless of what it did to other countries.
Imperialism was also one of the key factors that "fueled the fire." Britain and France had colonies in Africa and Asia that provided materials and markets. Germany wanted its own colonies, and the only way to do that was to take them.
