  • Article I- The Legislative Branch
  • For both large and small states.
  • We need a fair way to make laws.
  • Article II- The Executive Branch
  • We need someone to be in charge, but without a lot of power.
  • What if that doesn't work and they get too power hungry though?
  • Article III- The Judicial Branch
  • We need someone to enforce our laws in a fair way, like a judge, or many of them!
  • The Legislative Branch makes the laws and was created to balance the powers of large and small states, and also set up Congress as bicameral.
  • Article IV- Full Faith and Credit
  • No, I haven't.
  • The Executive Branch enforces laws and describes the election, powers, and duties of the president. The president is chief executive, making him head of the largest branch of the federal government.
  • Article V- Amending the Constitution
  • Someone has proposed an amendment to the Constitution.
  • The Judicial Branch interprets the laws and the Constitution. Article III solidifies the Supreme Court and give Congress the right to set up "inferior" courts below the Supreme Court.
  • Federalism
  • We share powers!
  • Faith and Full Credit means that states must accept the laws and actions other states make, like legal documents. For example, they must help each other track down criminals.

  • Thomas Jefferson wrote that the Constitution "belongs to the living and not the dead." It can be changed under certain circumstances. To add or take things away, people have to propose amendments.
  • Well, we need two-thirds vote in each house of Congress.
  • Federalism is the division of power between federal and state governments. Federal and state governments have some powers of their own, but they also share some.
