Winston walks down the streets and all of a sudden there is an explosion.
"If there is hope, it lies in the proles" (70).
Winston spots an old man entering a pub, he must talk to him about the history book.
I must ask him to "tell me about [his] life when [he was] a boy" (74).
"You [must] remember what it was like in the old days, before the revolution" (76).
"Top 'ats [and] Lackeys!" (76, 77).
Winston goes to the antique shop and buys coral sand, then goes and sees a room with the man. He becomes curious about a building in a picture.
He sees a woman from work and believes that she is following him. He thought she could be an agent for the Thought Police: "[I] could keep on her track till [we are] in a quiet place ,and then smash her scullion with a cobblestone" (85).
He did not end up killing the woman.
"WAR IS PEACE FREEDOM IS SLAVERY IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH" (87).
