Marge and Bob were sitting at the dinner table, ready to eat their delicious homemade cheese burgers.
The first part of the Burger's journey is in the mouth where the teeth and saliva from the salivary gland break down the food in to small pieces. Amylase in the mouth will break the starch into sugar. Making the food easier to eat. The bread from the cheese burger may even begin to taste sweet.
After going through the throat and the epiglottis, the cheese burger manages to find its way to the esophagus. The esophagus carries small chunks of chewed food which goes through the cardiac sphincter, and gets trapped inside the stomach.
The burger is then inside one of the major organs, the stomach. Here the food is stored so that it is digested properly. It is broken down by hydrochloric acid and stomach enzymes, these help continue the process.
In the small intestine, there are lots of enzymes all working together to break down foods and absorb the nutrients. some of which are; lipases (breaks down fat from the meat) and proteases. all of the enzymes help absorb in the nutrients from the salad, etc.
