  • An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. According to the Physics Classroom.
  • Newton's First Law
  • This means that an object that is not moving will continue not moving if it remains uninterfered with and nothing messes with it. However, if an object is already moving and no outside force interferes it will remain moving forever since there is nothing to stop it.
  • EXAMPLE #1
  • A ball that is thrown and starts falling due to gravity.
  • EXAMPLE #2
  • A bike that stops being pedaled and slows due to friction
  • The acceleration of an object is dependent upon two variables - the net force acting upon the object and the mass of the object. According to the Physics Classroom.
  • Newton's Second Law
  • This law states that when an object is interfered with by a force it will accelerate. How long or quickly it accelerates depends on a few important things. The net force is all the forces acting on the object combined. If the net force increases, so does the acceleration of the object. However the mass also contributes to the amount of acceleration. If the mass increases, the acceleration decreases. The more mass an object has, the less acceleration it can receive from forces. Larger objects need more net force than smaller objects to reach the same acceleration.
