Thus sprung why should I fear to trace my birth? Nothing can make me other than I am
For shame no true born theban patron would thus withhold the true word of the prophecy
well let him go no matter what it cost me my certain death or shameful banishment.
Oedipus does not want the oracle to come true so by him leaving his “parents” and going to marry jocasta he had not wanted to track down his birth parents so by doing this he had made his fate happen.
This is demonstrating that is a real theban who knows the prophecy would know that to get rid of the plague that one will have to come forward and they all think it was robbers. This demonstrates free will because they can believe oedipus or their own beliefs.
By Oedipus killing Laius this set him up for his fate of being either killed or banished. Oedipus, either way, is getting justice for laius by accusing Jocasta's brother of something Oedipus did.
