- Exposition
- "...one evening during the supreme madness of the carnival season, that I encountered my friend."
- Montresor notices Fortunato in the crowd at the Carnival. Fortunato is very drunk, so he is convinced to go to the catacombs to drink, some more, with his friend.
- Rising Action
- Yes! This way.
- Here? Ok!
- Montresor leads Fortunato into a small room/ "hole in the wall".
- Rising Action
- "Montresor! What are you doing!?”
- Montresor chained Fortunato and laid the first tier of brick down. Fortunato has just realized what is going on.
- Climax
- "Yes, for the love of God!"
- "For the love of God, Montresor!"
- Montresor has one more brick to seal the wall, killing Fortunato. Fortunato is pleading.
- Falling Action
- "I forced the last stone into its position; I plastered it up."
- Montresor sealed the brick wall, ending Fortunate's life for good.
- Resolution
- "For half of a century no mortal has disturbed them. In pace requiescat!"
