In the book Of Mice and Men, power and dreams are to big topic that the men go through. In this is the scene where Crooks tells Lennie that he had a good life back when he was a little boy. Lennie doesn't know what he is talking about and just talking about other things.
"How long you think it'll be before them pups will be old enough to pet?"
"I was born right here in California. my old man had a chicken ranch, 'bout ten acres. The white kids come to play at our place, an' sometimes i went to play with them.... There wasn't another black kid for miles. If I say something, why it's just another nigger taklin'."
"He want do it. George wouldn't do nothing like that. I been with George a long time. He'll come back tonight. Do you think he will?"
This is the scene when Crooks gets power over Lennie and he starts to abuse it.
I said s'pose George went into town tonight and you never heard of him no more. Just s'pose that?"
"George won't do nothing like that. George is careful. He won't get hurt. He ain't never been hurt, 'cause he's careful."
"Nobody can't tell what a guy'll do. Le's say he wants to come back and can't. S'pose he gets killed or hurt so he can't come back."
