  • The French Revolution: Causes and The National Assembly
  • I'm so hungry! The king and queen are eating all the food!
  • The bread prices are so high! We can't afford that!
  • Inflation caused bread prices to rise, making it harder for the lower classes to afford it.
  • 97% of the population was in the Third Estate: The one with the least amount of influence in the Estates General
  • We are the biggest estate, but we have the smallest say in the government!
  • We want equal representation!
  • I just bought so many new shoes!
  • Marie Antoinette spent a ton of France's money on herself, which didn't help their inflation issue at all. Some even called her Madame Deficit because she spent so much.
  • She spends so much money...
  • We have to pay outrageous taxes but the nobility and clergy don't!
  • The 3rd Estate had to pay 50% of their income to taxes, while the 1st and 2nd Estates paid none.
  • The National Assembly created a new constitution to give the people more rights. It was the first act of the people against the old regime that eventually leads to the Revolution.
  • Yeah!
  • We are going to create a new constitution!
