I wish I could actually pay for his services
These are the Cunningham's. They are poor farmers that supply Maycomb with a lot of the food that they grow on their farms. They are considered "working class" on the three tier social class theory by Karl Marx because they have a very low income and supply the higher classes with services. Whittington-Walsh, Fiona. (2017).
These are The Finch's. Atticus, Jem and Scout's father, is a highly respected lawyer in Maycomb. Because of Atticus's occupation his family would be considered to be in the "petit bourgeoisie" tier as Atticus is a professional with a higher income than the working class. Karl marx theory also consisted of an upper class which was known as the bourgeoisie. Know one in Maycomb is classified bourgeoisie as everyone was impacted by the depression. Whittington-Walsh, Fiona. (2017).
Social class inequality is demonstrated in How To Kill a Mockingbird when Mr. Cunningham was in need of Atticus's services. However, he did not have the money to pay for it so he had to pay him with food or labour that he could afford. Capitalism is an economic system based on production. One person produces, and another person gets the profit for those productions. This is what keeps Capitalism around. The owners of businesses needed "working class" people to produce for them. Whittington-Walsh, Fiona. (2017).
